How does counselling help me?

Counselling is like holding up a mirror to your soul – it shows you parts of yourself that are difficult to see by yourself. In person-centred counselling, the therapy may use a variety of scientifically-proven approaches to help individuals understand their own issues better, drawing links to the client’s childhood memories, behaviours and thought patterns. Recognising and understanding these issues is the first step to forming solutions to improve one’s mental health, personal habits, or relationships.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling usually refers to shorter term treatment addressing a specific situation, while psychotherapy aims to treat deep-seated issues and achieving a better understanding of one’s behavioural patterns and core issues. At Being Counselling and Wellness, we offer both types of services at our centre in Upper Thomson, and our therapists can advise you further on which approach to take after the first session.

How do I find the right therapist for my needs?

Besides choosing the right type of therapy, choosing the right therapist is important. Begin your search with certified counsellors, psychotherapists, or psychologists in Singapore. It may be a good idea to select a practitioner who is specialised in seeing individuals with similar issues as yours - browsing through their experiences and client reviews may help you find out more about them. Then, schedule a trial session to meet the therapist. A therapist should be someone you feel comfortable with, allowing you to be vulnerable in their presence.

How do I book a session with a counsellor?

If you are finding a therapist near you, simply drop us a note via WhatsApp or email with a brief description of your reason for seeking therapy. We will get back to you via phone call to do a brief interview to find out more. Thereafter, we will match you with the most suitable counsellor from our team, or even refer you to a specialised counsellor or psychologist outside our centre.
